We would like to draw your attention to Arjan Markus and his family.
Arjan, now 61 years old, was diagnosed with kidney cancer in December 2011, after which he had a kidney removed.
Everything seemed to be fine at the time, no metastases were visible according to the doctor.
In the spring of 2022, Arjan had a terrible cough, after which he went to the hospital with his wife Herma. Within an hour they were told that it was completely wrong.
The pulmonologist assumed it was lung cancer, but after insistence they took a puncture from the neck. This showed that they were metastases from the kidney cancer.
In 2022, Arjan first had double immunotherapy and later single immunotherapy.
This worked very well for a year, but in August 2023 the scan showed that the tumors had grown again and the immunotherapy was no longer working.
Arjan subsequently had 5 rounds of chemotherapy, but at the beginning of 2024 it turned out that this had not given sufficient results and growth was visible again on the scan.
After these years of fighting the cancer, there is little choice left when it comes to regular care.
This is how they arrived at dendritic cell therapy.
This therapy is recognized in several European countries, but not yet in the Netherlands for the type of cancer that Arjan has. For this reason, the therapy is not reimbursed by health insurance.
Arjan is a hardworking man who does not give in. He still works as much as he can in their own transport company.
Precisely because he is such a go-getter, he tries to do what is possible to fight the cancer.
Dendritic cell therapy is probably the last chance to fight the cancer.
Because this treatment costs €56,000 per year and is not reimbursed, this last chance now seems impossible.
It is distressing to know that there is still a chance of stabilizing the disease in Europe, but this is not possible due to the costs. We don’t want this to happen.
For this reason we founded this crowdfunding.
In this way, Arjan can finance this process for a year, if not longer.
We still give Arjan time with his wife, his family and that he can watch his grandchildren grow up.
