“No, we have not agreed on that,” says doctor Stadhouders, who is eight months pregnant. “It was one surprise after another. You don’t always plan that. It’s a freak of nature that we got pregnant so close together. But it is striking of course. Especially since we all happen to be pregnant with girls.”

Operation remains the same

Doctor Stadhouders is due before the end of this month. Her colleagues will give birth within this and five months. A large number of doctors will therefore be on maternity leave at the same time, but patients do not have to worry. The same number of deliveries will be able to take place in the hospital.

“Two new colleagues are starting this month and the colleagues who remain will also take over patients from those who were absent,” says Dr Stadhouders. “It will be a little busier for them, but it certainly remains feasible. In any case, there are fewer operations and consultations in the summer because many people are traveling.”

The gynecologists enjoy being pregnant together and the patients also find it a nice sight. “Patients always like it when their own gynecologist is pregnant. And here it is of course noticeable with all those round bellies. When we ask how they are doing, they always ask the question right back.”
