A serious example of road rage in the British city of Bournemouth may cost 60-year-old Peter Abbott dearly. Last summer he went completely crazy against a driver who was driving behind him. At one point he even punched her windshield in a blind rage. She filmed everything and the video (see above) went viral. He had to appear in court yesterday.
The video, which shows Abbott putting his head against the woman’s car window and calling her “a slag” and “a slut”, was shown in Poole District Court. “Can you see me now, you stupid cow?” he still says. A passerby tries to calm the attacker, but without success. “I don’t really like people filming me. She is an annoying woman.”
Victim Samantha Isaacs described in court what preceded the incident. “I had just driven away and a car came from the shopping area,” Isaacs said. “He cut me off and I had to hit the brakes so hard that all my stuff fell from the passenger seat onto the floor.” When she sounded the horn, Abbott’s fuses tripped. “He turned around in the car and started gesticulating. Then he got out and started shouting at me.”
“Bully”
Abbott tried to justify his behavior in court by claiming that Isaacs had honked his horn several times. “Rightly or wrongly: if someone behaves this way towards me, then I want to say something about it,” he argued. “I will do that with everyone, regardless of gender, size or age.”
The district judge postponed Abbott’s sentencing until a later date. He risks a prison sentence. Victim Samantha Isaacs said this after the trial: “He is a terrible man and a bully. I didn’t want it to get to this point, I just don’t want him to do it to anyone else.”
