The ten best branches of the bankrupt optical chain GrandOptical are making a new start as Opsin Optics. Investment company Standard Investment will take over the stores, according to a press release on Friday.

At the end of January, Retail Optical Stores Belgium BV, the holding company for GrandOptical’s Belgian stores, closed its books because it was in bad shape. The retail chain had 36 stores in our country and employed approximately 120 employees.

However, it now appears that ten GrandOptical Belgium branches are making a new start. This concerns those in Anderlecht, Mons, Leuven, Sint-Niklaas, Uccle, Waterloo, Wavre, Wemmel, Wijnegem and Woluwe. The familiar store staff will receive customers again from tomorrow/Saturday.

New owner, new wind

The stores will operate under a new name, Opsin Optics. In addition to the new name and logo, the store interior was also refreshed. CEO will be Katrien Willems, who was hired in 2023 to develop the strategy for Belgium.

The new owner of the chain is investment company Standard Investment. He “facilitated the capital for the restart and also brought his broad experience in improving and growing companies,” it said in a press release. Standard Investment expects the Belgian optics market to grow by 2 to 3 percent over the next two years, partly driven by the aging of the population.
