The numbers mentioned here (and the numbers in the fastned news item itself) are actually completely meaningless. Example: 99 GWh renewable. Yes, nice, but how much energy in total? And how much is actually renewable at the time of production and how much through the purchase of CO2 certificates? aka greenwashing? And that annual report is at least 88 pages, good luck with critical reading.

I also see an important word NET loss, but a positive result. EBITDA is a nice accounting trick, but make sure you look at the definition: Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization. The result therefore says nothing at all about the profitability of a company. It’s just a loss, because taxes still have to be paid.

But it sounds nice for reporting. Positive result. (after some adjustments to definitions and a very nice marketing selection of numbers that appear positive)

edit: ah, total volume of energy sold is 99 GWh. Given that the energy mix in the Netherlands is still not 100% green, nor is consumption aligned with the production of green energy, my suspicion has (of course) been confirmed again. It is based on green certificates and the “avoided CO2 emissions” purely on the basis of arithmetic tricks that unfortunately provide little information to the actual environment.
