Shipping disaster
Divers recovered two bodies from the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday. These are men aged 35 and 26, who were in a red pick-up truck. The local police announced this.
During the night from Monday to Tuesday, part of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a container ship collided with a pier. Eight workers were missing after the accident, two of whom were pulled alive from the water on Tuesday. Now two bodies have also been found.
The search for the remaining four has been halted for the time being. The local police chief says that several cars have been located in the water, but there is so much debris on and around them that divers cannot reach them safely for the time being. “We have exhausted all search options,” it sounds.
It is assumed that the missing persons have died. From now on, the emergency services will focus on salvaging the ship and repairing the bridge, the police said.
