The state of Zacatecas is experiencing an upsurge of violence after several suspected criminals were recently arrested there. In a press release, the Zacatecas Public Prosecutor’s Office said that the nine victims found in Morelos were all men. No further details are known. The bodies were wrapped in blankets.

Of the nine bodies found Tuesday in Fresnillo, five victims have been identified. Their bodies were transferred to their relatives. According to authorities, it was the work of a gang rivaling another armed group, at whose address the first gang left several messages next to the lifeless bodies.

Fresnillo and Morelos are on a major drug route. Two of the country’s most dangerous cartels, the Sinola and Jalisco Nueva Generacion, are both trying to tighten their grip over the area.
