Years of search for a mysterious song ultimately leads to a porn film from the 80s

A mystery in the music world has finally been solved after years. The search for an unknown song eventually led thousands of sleuths to a porn film from the 80s.

“Everyone Knows That”. It’s the title of a song that captivated thousands of Reddit users for years. In 2021, someone posted a short snippet of the song on YouTube. But the quality left much to be desired and so a mystery was born. The search for the title and performer of the song was shared on the Reddit platform, after which around 47,000 people started searching.

Many theories have surfaced over the years. For example, according to some, the song was a lost demo by Roxette or Savage Garden, among others. But the advertising world was also looked at. Was the tune, which fits in with typical 80s music, used in an advertisement and later completely forgotten?

Reddit users began searching databases for possible song titles. This way they came up with a shorter list of possible owners of the rights to the song. One user, who goes by the name south_pole_ball, discovered that one of the songwriters, Christopher Booth, had worked in the porn industry in the past. South_pole_ball then looked at Booth’s entire oeuvre. “I went through every video and watched them until I Angels of Passion (1986),” the Reddit user wrote. “Whereupon I got to 1:07:31 and I EKT [Everyone Knows That] found.” The search eventually reached Booth himself, who is amazed by the attention his ’80s song is receiving.

The song was never officially released and can therefore only be heard in the aforementioned porn film. But because of the great attention that Everyone Knows That received, admirers have now created an edited, non-pornographic version. Read: without too many explicit sound effects.
