Gravel in the Giro! Many cycling enthusiasts have been looking forward to the sixth stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia for days and weeks, which will partly cover the roads of Strade Bianche. In the Leader’s jersey keeps you informed of everything from (before) start to (after) finish!

This stage is often described as a mini-Strade Bianche, although opinions on this seem more than divided. For example, Tadej Pogacar, as the pink jersey wearer and winner of Strade Bianche this year, does not agree with it, but hey, in the end it is just a name. Bottom line, we prefer to stick to the facts: twelve kilometers of gravel have to be overcome and that, one way or another, will have an impact on the course of the ride.

It is certainly an interesting stage, as our man noted on the spot. In the run-up to this gravel ride, he went to the contested lanes and made a video of it, which you can watch below in the run-up to the ride. How are things going? Naturally, the key lies in the hands of the peloton, with general opinion pointing towards an excellent opportunity for the escapees. However, with a certain Pogacar at the start, this is something that cannot be guaranteed, although there are still plenty of privateers on the coast for the tricky finale towards Rapolano Terme. We arrive there after a 180 kilometer race through the beautiful Tuscan country.

The ride starts at 1 p.m., after which the race will normally last just over four hours. Eurosport broadcasts the match.
