AT5 was present for five hours this afternoon and this evening during the evacuation of the Binnengasthuis site and the subsequent fighting between the Mobile Unit and pro-Palestinian activists. Watch the broadcast below:
The action started around 5 p.m. After three advances, riot police tried to get the activists away from the various barricades. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators oppose this. They sprayed fire extinguishers at the officers and threw stones.
The riot police also dealt blows. Several demonstrators were arrested. The barricades were removed with shovels. A large number of activists then moved to Rokin, where they blocked GVB buses intended for transporting detainees. The police responded several times, but activists remained standing nearby.
On the Rokin, the demonstrators threw stones and bottles of ammonia. Around 9:45 p.m., the police intervened in such a way that the activists had to leave. The activists then stood on Rembrandtplein for a while, but peace soon returned.
