There is more controversy surrounding no trainer in the Jupiler Pro League than Hein Vanhaezebrouck. He is one of the legends of the past decades.

A lot of people don’t like Hein Vanhaezebrouck, but for analyst Peter Vandenbempt he is one of the very best trainers of the past twenty years. His visits to Genk and Anderlecht in particular are held in high regard.

“In Genk there turned out to be less money than promised and its chairman even conducted a mini-survey among other trainers about his controversial 3-4-3 there. And in Brussels he was lost in the chaos after the takeover by Marc Coucke. It would take many years before the club achieved results like in the first year under Vanhaezebrouck,” says Vandenbempt in Het Nieuwsblad.

Vanhaezebrouck is seen by many as an irritating know-it-all and lectures the rest like a schoolmaster, Vandenbempt summarizes the perception of the KAA Gent trainer. The analyst and commentator’s conclusion is particularly positive.

“For me, Vanhaezebrouck is a brilliant football professor who can prepare and read a match excellently, allows his players to perform to the maximum and strives for attacking football always and everywhere. His emotional intelligence or people management is unfortunately not at the same level even according to his closest advocates.”
