royaltyPrince Harry (39) was supported by the brother and sister of his mother, the late Princess Diana, during the special event for the Invictus Games in London. His father, King Charles (75), could not make time for a meeting while he was only 2 miles away. He was “too busy with other commitments.”
Prince Harry has flown from the United States to the United Kingdom to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Invictus Games Foundation. His wife Meghan, son Archie and daughter Lilibet are still in the US. The international sporting event is intended for soldiers and veterans who have been psychologically or physically injured during their service.
A service was organized in St Paul’s Cathedral in London, where Harry himself also gave a lecture. Neither his father, King Charles, nor his brother, Prince William, were present. But the Duke of Sussex could still count on the support of family on his mother’s side. Princess Diana’s brother and sister – Charles Spencer and Lady Jane Fellowes – went to London to support their cousin. George McCorquodale, Louis Spencer and Lara Spencer – two of Harry’s cousins - also attended the service at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Three kilometers
Just two miles away, King Charles and Queen Camilla opened the first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace. Prince Harry would have liked to meet his father, but “of course understands his father’s agenda with commitments and various other priorities,” his spokesperson said.
Ingrid Seward, editor of ‘Majesty Magazine’ and friend of the late Diana, explains that the presence of the Spencers means a lot. “They are a great support to Harry and always have been. It is a clear signal to the royal family and to the Duke of Sussex that Diana’s family is there for him,” she says. “Now that Prince Harry has left the royal family, the Spencers have once again laid claim to him.”
