Reporter Anastacia Galouchka just back from the front in Ukraine: “Counteroffensive long and difficult, human toll will be unseen high”

Galouchka told in “The morning” on Radio 1 how she spent 6 weeks along the front in the south. It’s a tough battle there. “Geographically, it’s all steppes there with the occasional forest and trees, the soldiers have dug themselves into trenches. It’s difficult to fight to make territorial gains on that plain. The soldiers there are motivated, there is a certain determination : they have no other choice.”

Ukrainian President Zelensky informed the world that his army’s counter-offensive in the south is making progress. Galouchka tempers expectations. “When I was at the front, they had been talking about the counter-offensive for three months. Except for some tanks and some weapons being brought to the front, we didn’t see much happening. Even now that the counter-offensive has started, it’s not a massive “counter-attack progressing all along the front line. If you look at it on the map, only a few villages have been liberated from Russian occupation. The counter-offensive will be long, arduous and the human toll will be unprecedented.”
