Donald Trump (77) has responded for the first time to the much-discussed photo showing mysterious red spots on his right hand. The image went around the world a few weeks ago and provoked the wildest theories. From ‘hand herpes’ to leprosy: all kinds of strange diagnoses were discussed. However, Trump himself now claims that he never saw the photo. “Maybe it was AI,” he told a journalist from the news channel ‘Fox News’.
A Fox journalist asked Trump yesterday how his hands were doing. In a video of the moment, the ex-president shows his palms in surprise. “What was wrong with it?” he asks. The journalist then asks Trump if he has not seen the photo, to which the latter replies: “No. Nothing has happened. Maybe it was AI.”
The infamous photo was taken several weeks ago as Trump was on his way from his Manhattan apartment to the New York courthouse. The American ex-president was tried there for defamation against author E. Jean Carroll. On January 26, the court ruled that Trump must pay damages of almost 77 million euros to Carroll. The ex-president had previously been sentenced to 5 million euros in damages for the sexual abuse of the writer in 1996.
The image showed bizarre red spots on Trump’s thumb, palm and index finger. The photo quickly went viral and the rumor mill was running at full speed on social media. ‘Hand herpes’, leprosy or rashes caused by excessive golfing or hand washing: Internet users and even dermatologists came up with the most diverse diagnoses.
But the real explanation turned out to be a lot less spectacular. Last week, an anonymous source from Trump’s entourage claimed that the ex-president had simply cut himself on a piece of paper. The cut had become a wound, and blood had spread across Trump’s hand when he made a fist, it said.
