The secret complex is hidden in the northern region of Karelia, less than 30 kilometers from the Finnish border. Drone footage has now revealed for the first time just how opulent and expansive Putin’s secret estate is, complete with luxury villas, helipads, brewery and trout farm.

LOOK. This is Vladimir Putin’s enormous estate near the Finnish border

About ten years ago, construction began on the extravagant complex on Lake Ladoga, the largest lake in Europe. The gigantic estate is about twice the size of Monaco.

There are three houses on the property: The Barn, The Fisherman’s Hut and The Garden House. Previously, a link could be made between Putin and the enormous ‘holiday domain’ on the basis of leaked emails. This also showed how luxurious everything is furnished. There are very expensive marble floors costing more than 100,000 euros, taps costing 10,000 euros and an indoor swimming pool. The price tag for the shell alone would amount to more than 3.3 million euros.

A team from the ‘Dossier Center’, a London-based research group funded by Putin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky, was also able to take the first images of the complex using a drone. It is not clear how the journalists managed to bypass security to gain access to the site. Normally it is very well secured and only accessible by boat or plane.

Air defense system

The three houses have two helipads and several jetties. The domain also includes a trout farm and livestock farm for the production of “marbled beef”. There is also a beer brewery worth 350,000 euros. At the back of the estate with private waterfall there is a large elevation that could be used to station an air defense system. Putin’s residences across Russia are known to be protected by anti-aircraft systems when he visits.

Putin comes to this gigantic estate at least once a year, according to local residents. “There is no doubt that the president comes here to relax,” a Dossier Center reporter said in the video report.

Surveillance

The site is highly secured when there are guests. The Federalnaya Sluzhba Ochrany (FSO), a security service responsible for protecting Russian state assets and high-ranking government officials, would also be present.

Officially, the owner of the domain is said to be Juriy Kovalchuk, a Russian businessman and billionaire known as ‘Vladimir Putin’s personal banker’ and responsible for the real estate of the current Russian president.

Abramovich

A nearby hotel is also owned by Kovalchuk, while an adjacent luxury villa belongs to Roman Abramovich, the Western-sanctioned former owner of Chelsea football club.

In the run-up to the presidential elections, Putin has made it appear that he has few assets to his name. These include a small apartment in St. Petersburg, two Soviet-era cars, a trailer and a small garage. But this is in stark contrast to reality.
