On Monday evening, a 29-year-old woman in Sydney suffered serious leg injuries after a shark attack near the harbour. She now thanks her neighbors, who she says have done “a heroic act”.
On Monday evening, kayaker Lauren O’Neill decided to take a dip near Sydney Harbour. That didn’t end well, because around 8 p.m. she was attacked by a bull shark. Because she screamed for help, some bystanders immediately came to her aid. This included a local veterinarian who was able to immediately cover her bleeding wounds.

In a comment left by O’Neill from the hospital, she says she wants to thank the people who immediately came to her aid, including the vet who immediately covered the wounds until the ambulance arrived.
She thanks not only the bystanders, but also the police officers and paramedics who provided “quick and caring actions on the spot”. O’Neill says she is also very grateful for the doctors and specialized surgical teams who assisted her in hospital. Her condition is stable.
Shark attacks in Sydney
It wasn’t the first time someone had been attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbour. In 2009, a shark bit off a man’s hand. In 2022 it even resulted in a fatal accident. Yet shark attacks in that area are “very rare,” shark expert Amy Smoothey told Sky News.
