There has been another shooting at a Jewish school in the Canadian city of Montreal. No one was injured. It is already the third shooting incident in the city in less than a week, at a time when the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip is raging in full force. It is not yet known whether there is a connection between the shootings.
On Sunday, Montreal’s Yeshiva Gedola School building was targeted by gunmen again for the second time. That had already been the case during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Bullet casings and bullet casings were found at the school, CBC News reports.
Police had said Thursday they were investigating overnight shootings at two Jewish schools in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. In addition to the Yeshiva Gedola school, this involved the Talmud Torah primary school. That first school was shot at again on Sunday. It is not clear whether the shootings are related.

Early last week, a synagogue in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, a Montreal suburb, was also bombarded with Molotov cocktails. And on Wednesday there was a skirmish at Concordia University between the two sides taking sides in the Gaza conflict. People were injured and someone was arrested. According to the university, there has been “a worrying increase in harassment and intolerant behavior”.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is now trying to calm the mood. “I know emotions are running high and people are scared. But attacking each other is not consistent with who we are as Canadians. If anywhere in the world can grow the understanding that we will need for a peaceful solution in the Middle East, it is in a country like Canada.”
