If you fancy something other than rain, it’s best to head to the Alps now. There is currently a lot of snow falling there. Some winter sports areas in Austria are therefore open earlier than normal. “But it is not the case that people who booked a winter sports holiday in December are now assured of a slope with snow.”
“November started off snowy in the Alps, with lots of snow in the lower areas. There will also be a lot of snow on a regular basis in the coming days,” Weerplaza reports on their site. Snow is falling in the Swiss and French Alps, but winter in Austria seems to have really started. “Especially last Friday, a significant amount of snow fell in a large part of the Alps, locally even more than one meter.”
As a result, several ski areas are already open. “In Solden, the winter sports area is already fully open up to an altitude of 2000 meters thanks to the early snow. This is much earlier than normal.”

“But this happens often,” explains Johnny Willemsen of Weerplaza. “Yes, there is snow now, but it can also become very soft again during this month, causing it to thaw again. So it is not the case that people who have booked a winter sports holiday in December are assured of a slope with snow because of this news.”
It will temporarily become mild again at the beginning of next week and it will rain in many places in the Alps. From Wednesday, signals of a ‘significant snow dump’ in Austria are increasing again.
Ardennes
The Ardennes have also been dealing with snow since Thursday evening. This was visible, among other things, on a webcam in the north of the Belgian province of Luxembourg. The camera is located at an altitude of approximately 650 meters, making it one of the highest points in the country. Snow is expected again on Friday evening.
