Alarmed by the cries of their parrot, a couple in Finistère, France, were rescued from a fire that had started behind their kitchen wall on the night of November 4 to 5. The bird warned the owners by calling out to them, which prevented a serious fire.
Gilles and Virguine, from the Breton region of Finistère, were sleeping deeply until they were woken up around 5 am by their parrot Baby. The bird is a real chatterbox that regularly talks to its owners during the day, but at night it is usually silent.
The six-year-old bird never stops commenting on what is happening, but “at night you never hear him talking, he has his habits,” says Gilles. On the night of November 4 to 5, the owners could count on Baby’s alertness. He warned them that a fire had started behind the kitchen wall.
“It is warm”
“Suddenly the parrot started shouting ‘it’s hot, it’s hot’, followed by some coughing sounds,” Virguine remembers. Her husband decided to investigate and immediately smelled a burnt odor. “It came from the wall behind the dishwasher,” Gilles explains.
“The smoke could have killed us,” Gilles continues. “If Baby hadn’t woken us up, we would have suffocated.”
