A Jewish man (69) was killed in the United States during a protest against the war between Hamas and Israel. Paul Kessler was hit and hit his head on the road. It is now being investigated whether his death can be qualified as a ‘hate crime’. “There was not an ounce of violence in him,” says a close friend of the victim.
Kessler got into a fight with demonstrators last Sunday in Thousand Oaks, a city about 60 kilometers from Los Angeles (California). During the discussion he suddenly received a hard blow to the head. The man collapsed and died from his injuries a day later.
The autopsy showed that Kessler was struck by a blunt object. According to the Jewish movement that organized the protest, the blow was carried out with a megaphone. However, the police do not want to confirm this for the time being.
Rabbi Moshe Bryski called his death a tragedy in the New York Post. “I got his wife on the phone this morning, she was in complete shock,” he said. “A pro-Palestinian rally took place, Kessler was part of the counter-demonstration. Being able to return home alive is a minimum.”

“Proud Israel supporter”
The images show Kessler lying on the ground with a head injury. A woman with a pro-Palestinian flag comes to his aid.
“It was the second demonstration he took part in since the start of the war in Gaza, but I never saw an ounce of violence in him,” says lawyer and close friend Justin Cohen. “He was not a hidden Zionist, but he was a proud Jew and Israel supporter.”
Police are reportedly still looking for eyewitnesses who can shed more light on the case. A man involved in the discussion has already been questioned.
