Ansa Edim (35) goes viral with an unusual romantic story. The woman from Washington DC in America is dating a guy from Edinburgh in Scotland. For their first ‘real’ date they both traveled to Iceland.

Ansa said she had sworn off men after a divorce at 28 and a canceled engagement in 2021. When another relationship broke down last September, she traveled to Scotland. She met musician David Michael (30) on a dating app, a day before she was to travel to Berlin.

David seemed keen on a date, but Ansa held off because she had a cold. Perseverance won in this case, because after a lot of messages and a phone call at 1 a.m., David came to her hotel room. “I was sitting there alone in my nightgown with no makeup on, and I thought no way,” says Ansa. “But I thought, ‘I’m leaving tomorrow, and that guy doesn’t seem like he’s going to kill me,’ so we had a pajama party. He was so sweet and so cool, and we just giggled incessantly. We became friends immediately.”

Food and music

The two then continued to exchange messages, and realized that they wanted to go on a “real” date. They decided to meet again in Reykjavik. “As tourists, we drove for hours all over Iceland,” said Ansa. “We saw The Great Geyser, the waterfalls and the Icelandic Phallus Museum – which is exactly what you think it is.”

“We realized that we are both real foodies and delved into Icelandic food: we ate whale, shearwater, horse and fermented shark. Then we went to see live jazz music and rented an Airbnb for the whole week.”

What now?

They said goodbye to each other on October 10, but they are still in daily contact. And what now? “We haven’t known each other that long, and we’ve only been on three and a half dates, if you count that first night. The relationship is not very serious, but a valuable lesson I have learned along the way is to have fun until it isn’t fun anymore.”

“I’m not sure how you can have a serious relationship from different continents,” Ansa concludes. “But I am frantically looking for a job in Europe. Despite all this, I’m having a great time. I’m having so much fun.”
