The first full week of the new TV season is over. We take stock: who wins, who loses?

‏Loser: everyone

Is it late summer? Is it because of the offer? Are more people turning off their devices at night to save energy? Whatever the cause, with an opening week with just one show ending above a million, the new TV season hasn’t gotten off to a glorious start. For some programs, the lower viewing figures can still be explained: ‘De Allerslimste Mens ter Wereld’ opened with 745,000 viewers, while ‘De Slimste Mens’ had more than a million viewers last year at the start, but that was more than a month later in the year. But for example ‘Home’ had a maximum of 1,020,000 viewers a year ago and then scored better every day than it did this week.

Winner: One

At the public broadcaster they can nevertheless open the champagne and put on their shoes to do a victory dance in the setting of the ‘shiny floor show’ they are making. In prime time, One really only had one competitor last week: ‘The Very Smartest Man in the World’. At the weekend – thanks to the strong Sunday evening and the growing success of ‘Homo Universalis’ – the station is even authoritarian, and the experiment to get ‘Vive le vélo’ (457,000) out of hibernation, partly due to the growing hype around Remco Evenepoel, well turned out.

Loser: VTM

At Play4 they can rely on ‘De Allerslimste’, but for VTM – disregarding ‘Het Nieuws’ or ‘Family’ – it is a long search for a bright spot. ‘I can see your voice’ (384,000) did less well on Friday than ‘Belgium’s Got Talent’ (510,000) last year, ‘Lego Masters’ (212,000) saw its score halved on Saturday compared to season in the spring, ‘ Blindly married ‘(400,000) could not compete with ‘Down the road’ and ‘De Allerslimste’ on Monday, ‘Dear viewers’ only got 212,000 viewers on Wednesday and ‘The hunting season’ (287,000) does not bring what you could expect from it. .

Winner: Maaike Cafmeyer

It is not an obvious series, but the link with ‘Eigen Kweek’, the popularity of West Flemish and the fairly unknown but strongly acting cast drew ‘Chantal’ over the million. King Tom Waes has lost his place for a while, there is a new queen on Sunday evening.

Loser: Pascale Naessens

You could have thought beforehand: ‘Pottery pots, who’s interested in that now?’ And then you would have been right, because with 173,000 viewers, ‘Pascale’s scale’ started very carefully. However, just on Tuesday evening the competition on One, where the last episodes of ‘De emergencycentrale’ are shown, was the weakest. Remarkable: Paul Jambers scored slightly better than his wife later that same evening with ‘Jambers, back to the nineties’ (184,000). As long as that doesn’t cause bumble bees!

Winners: Erik Van Looy and Dieter Coppens

‘The Very Smartest Person in the World’ opened less strongly than ‘The Smartest Person’ eleven months ago (1,011,603‏), but it was the most watched program in primetime every night. Except on Monday: ‘Down the road’ had to give in compared to the start last week (977,000), but Dieter Coppens was just ahead of Erik Van Looy with 818,000 viewers.

Loser: Gert Verhulst

To say ‘The table of four’ was the center of attention all week is an understatement à la ‘Charles had to wait a while before he could take the throne.’ But all the controversy has not immediately resulted in high ratings for the talk show. “The Table of Four” started Monday with 201,000 viewers, rose to 214,000 on Tuesday – roughly 500 more viewers each time the ‘n-word’ was dropped in the first episode – but then fell back to 180,000 and on Thursday 142,000 viewers. In times of important news, such as the death of a queen, people also seem to move towards Canvas: ‘The appointment’ got the best score of the week on Thursday, with 249,000 viewers.

Loser: Ella Leyers

‘The ideal world’ got off to a good start last week with a maximum score of 275,000 viewers, but in week two only half of that remained: on Tuesday, the most watched episode, the program reached 137,000 viewers. More than 400,000 people stayed for the – one-off – best of week one on Sunday evening after the end of ‘Chantal’.
