Four students from Panningen received the ScienceMakers Award 2022 in the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven on Wednesday 21 September.
It concerns Jort van der Zanden, Pim Wagemans, Arvid Billekens and Jasper de Jong. They received this award for their achievement in science, technology and making. The foursome received the award as Team Raspberry Pie within the Rasperry Pi Competition from PSV players Savio and André Ramalho and presenter Dennis Weening.
Raspberry Pi Competition
In the Raspberry Pi Competition, students are challenged to design an invention with a tiny Raspberry Pi computer that solves a social problem. The fourth edition of this competition took place last school year, with the theme: ‘innovating for a better world’.
Team Raspberry Pie knew what to do with this. The school of Jort, Pim, Arvid and Jasper is housed in an old building with poor ventilation. They made a smart, interactive CO2 meter. If this meter detects that the CO2 level in the room is too high, it will start talking to the people in the room: “Can you please open the windows and doors?” is still too high, the meter says the same with a stricter tone. This process is repeated a number of times. If it still does not improve, the alarm will go off.
