GOUDA • The Gouda brother and sister Thon van Eijk (illustrator) and Fanny de Wit (writer) have their first children’s book in the shop. ‘Titus Flies Out’ is the story of a blue tit who tells his adventures to children aged 4 to 10. Nice and loose, infectiously enthusiastic and with illustrations that put a smile on every reader’s mouth. A funny, colorful, flying friend, that Titus.

‘Somewhere, not far from you, is a large tree. If you look up at two thick branches, you will see a small hole between them. That is the entrance to our bird house. I live there with my mom and dad, four brothers and two sisters. Who I am? ask your. I am Titus, a little bird with a yellow breast and a blue cap.

You must have seen me fly by. In this book you can read about my experiences as a blue tit. Did you know that I can do tricks very well? And that I have experienced very exciting adventures? Would you also like to meet my friend Vigo and Cinciarella, the sweetest blue girl ever? Then read this book. A (bird) world will open up for you!’

Fanny and Thon let their touching creation promote its own stories. Fanny had been toying with the idea of writing a children’s book for years. “I was raised with a love for nature. I remember very well the times when I went out into nature with my father on my bicycle and discovered all kinds of things there.

I could name the animals and flowers we saw over time. For example, when other children yelled “Hey, a bird!” I would say, “That’s a robin.” That fascination for nature has always remained and I developed a passion for writing. I’ve had notes for ‘Titus Flies Out’ since 2016. And now the book is here. So cool!”

Cinciarella

Titus goes through all sorts of things. He describes his first flying lesson and learns to recognize his enemies such as a woodpecker, jay and cat. He learns everything a blue tit needs to know from his parents. While living on his own, Titus meets Vigo, a great tit from Russia. But also Cinciarella the blue girl, whom he fears has a crush on Vigo.

Fortunately, that turns out to be different, Titus and Cinciarella even get eggs together. “Making this book was a real joy for Thon and me”, Fanny de Wit laughs. This is clearly reflected in the beautiful reading book.
