At clothing bank Maxima in Stad people are urgently looking for clothing. It is noticed that it has started to get considerably busier in recent weeks.
“We reopened in September, because we are always closed during the summer,” says chair Maria Blom. “We see that it has been considerably busier in recent weeks. That in itself is not strange. People who are customers of the Food Bank may also use our services. So if more people come to the Food Bank, it will also get busier here. There is now a certain margin of uncertainty, because the limits to use the Food Bank were expanded last weekend. We don’t know exactly what this will mean for us yet, but it won’t get any quieter.”
In the meantime, people are looking for clothing: “It mainly concerns warm clothing. Clothing for men and children, and also shoes would be very welcome. We currently have plenty of women’s clothing in stock. How come? Women are more likely to go through their wardrobes to clear out. Men wear their clothes a little longer, which means that the range is smaller.” According to Blom, there is sufficient supply in itself. “People in Groningen are very generous. But because it is getting busier with us, we run into a problem. While clothing is extremely important. Not only to keep warm in the months ahead, but also in your presentation. Clothing makes the man, they sometimes say.”
People who want to donate clothing are welcome at clothing bank Maxima during opening hours. The clothing bank can be found in Stad at Oosterhamriklaan 91. The opening times can be found on this website.
