AMSTERDAM (ANP) – The lawyers of Youssef T., the nephew and ex-lawyer of the alleged top criminal Ridouan Taghi, have laid down the defense. The Public Prosecution Service confirms a message from EenVandaag about this. “We have heard that,” said a spokesman. Lawyer Yassine Bouchikhi does not comment when asked. Haroon Raza could not yet be reached for comment.
A new preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for Tuesday. T. will have to look for a new lawyer. The intention was initially to deal with the case at the end of this year, but that may have to be postponed.
The Public Prosecution Service suspects T. that he was the link between the detainee Taghi and the outside world. He is said to have helped his client and family member plan a violent outbreak or escape and would have facilitated the continuation of his drug trade. Taghi was sentenced to life imprisonment in the extensive Marengo liquidation process for, among other things, six murders and four attempts.
According to the OM, the alleged top criminal and his lawyer cousin were working on three different plans for a violent outbreak or an escape from Taghi. He was arrested on October 8, during a visit to Taghi in the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught. He’s been stuck ever since.
Last year, T. visited his cousin dozens of times in the EBI, in his capacity as a lawyer. Over time, the judiciary got serious suspicions that the two were discussing very different things than legal issues. An investigation was then launched, during which both men were tapped and filmed with hidden cameras during the visits.
T. has since been removed from the bar and is no longer a lawyer. He had a law firm in Utrecht.
