Remco Evenepoel had a quiet day in the Vuelta a España. The red jersey wearer of Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl crossed the line in the pack in Talavera de la Reina, where Mads Pedersen won the sprint. “It’s really special what Mads does, that climb was quite tough. Kudos to him and to Trek-Segafredo.”

“This was the perfect stage,” Evenepoel said in the flash interview after the nineteenth stage. “It was nice to have Trek-Segafredo in the lead all day. I promised Mads (Pedersen, ed.) that we would check the breakout, so we did our job. Then Trek-Segafredo took over again.”

On the Puerto del Piélago they drove on for a while, but the pace was never particularly high. “It’s really special what Mads does, that climb was quite tough. Kudos to him and to Trek-Segafredo.” It was important for Evenepoel to cross the finish line safely on Friday. “A crash was the biggest fear today,” said the leader of the Vuelta a España.
