Mads Pedersen won a tumultuous sprint stage in the Vuelta a España.

Pedersen booked a great victory, although it was almost exclusively about Roglic and Evenepoel after the stage.

“This is the way I like to win. Everyone in the team has worked very hard today. I promised Alex Kirsch to win today. He became the father of a daughter yesterday and he could not be at the birth. So this victory is for Alex, his wife and their new child. A second gift in a few days,” it sounded afterwards.

Roglic’s attack was a blessing for Pedersen. “I actually didn’t expect Roglic to attack two kilometers from the finish. Everyone was on the limit. It was therefore a very smart move on his part. Ackermann sat directly on his wheel, which was clever. Luckily I had the energy to close the gap.”

Pedersen hadn’t even seen the Slovenian’s crash. “I didn’t hear it. I actually wanted to go see him after the finish. Then I saw that his clothes were completely torn. It’s a real shame it crashed. He’s been through so much bad luck this year. I hope it’s not too bad and that he can continue to fight for the red leader’s jersey.”
