It’s time: Carrefour Belgium freezes the prices of 100 products. Prices are guaranteed to remain the same for a hundred days, a promotion that the supermarket chain announced earlier.
New purchasing power campaign
Carrefour is launching a new “purchasing power campaign” in Belgium this week: the prices of 100 products will remain the same for 100 days. Prices will remain frozen until the end of the year, regardless of inflation or cost increases. This partly concerns fresh products, which traditionally fluctuate more in price, such as bananas and bread, but strikingly enough, the promotion also includes non-food products in Belgium, such as plates, tissues and a steam iron.
The promotion is part of the “Purchasing power campaigns” campaign that the supermarket chain started two weeks ago, on August 23. During the first week, Carrefour put the range of cheapest private label SIMPL in the spotlight, last week the retailer announced 1000 products for less than 1 euro. At that time, however, it was not a question of price changes, but merely of communication about the existing offer.
Now Carrefour is indeed intervening, following the example of the French parent group. In France, the chain already froze the prices of 100 daily products at the end of August, because consumers are becoming increasingly frugal in their purchasing behaviour. The Belgian branch already promised a similar initiative and after two weeks the time has come.
