The man knew he was in a secure system and purposely looked up information from friends and relatives without being authorized to do so. The fact that it concerns data from acquaintances and he did this at their request, does not mean that he is not punishable. This also applies to looking up data from celebrities, including two crime journalists. These journalists were known to have been seriously (and one of them is still) threatened. It is precisely with these persons that accessing and disseminating personal data by unauthorized persons entails additional security risks. By acting in this way, he has also damaged the trust of and in the GGD and the government. In determining the sentence, the court looked at sentences imposed in similar cases. The role of the Rotterdammer was smaller than the role played by two co-defendants, who had already been convicted. The court also believes that the defendant has learned his lesson. That is why the man does not have to go to prison, but he does face a suspended prison sentence of 1 month. In addition, he must perform a community service order of 120 hours.
