110 Climate Mayors have already registered for the National Climate Week 2022. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate is still looking for a ‘Climate Mayor’ for the municipality of Hoogeveen. A Hoogevener who lives climate-consciously and also promotes this.

The second National Climate Week will start on 31 October, an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. In that week (October 31 to November 6), the ministry draws attention in all sorts of ways to everything that is happening in the country with regard to climate improvements in society. Last year during the first NKW, no fewer than 142 Climate Mayors committed themselves in their own way to make a positive contribution to the climate and inspired the Netherlands to deal with the climate more consciously. For this edition, the ministry is still looking for a Climate Mayor for the municipality of Hoogeveen.

Come up with a good climate story

Candidates for the title ‘Climate Mayor’ are taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions. This can be by means of a large measure or something small. For example, insulating the house or cycling more often instead of using the car. In addition, the Climate Mayor shares his or her story in his or her own network and organizes an activity in his or her own municipality, district or neighborhood during the National Climate Week to get (neighborhood) residents moving.

Application now open

Anyone who recognizes this can sign up via: www.nkw2022.nl, where you can also find examples of initiatives by other Climate Mayors. After registration, we look for opportunities to share the climate story that has been submitted via the (local) media. The Climate Mayor can also talk to the real mayor about what still needs to be done to achieve the climate goals in his own municipality.

Companies can also register

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate is not only calling on citizens to participate in the National Climate Week. Organizations – so-called Climate Supporters – in Hoogeveen and the surrounding area that are committed to the climate can also contribute by showing what they do and thereby inspiring others. From schools to SMEs and from municipalities to energy companies and trade associations. The sooner CO2 emissions can be reduced, the better this is for our climate. Climate supporters can also register via www.nkw2022.nl.
