In another two weeks it will be time, then you can buy an azalea for Kom op tegen Kanker in Sint-Genesius-Rode and surrounding municipalities thanks to the Rodense Leas – which have become a household name in the region. From this year on, the plants will cost 8 euros.

Originally the Rodense Lea’s were with 3, since last year Wendy (De Bontridder) and Mireille (Goossens) have put their shoulders under the plant weekend. In the meantime, they, but especially the action, are known and people are already looking forward to their points of sale. The first plants have already been reserved in the WZC in Sint-Genesius-Rode, the residents were waiting for the announcement of the sale. Amazing, right! Wendy and Mireille coordinate everything, but fortunately they can count on a team of volunteers: “This year too we will come out with a team of about 20 people and we will again welcome 2 new helpers. Some even come to help for several days or do an extra sale in their own area. Even on Sundays there are 2 points of sale this year. They are one by one treasures of people.

New this year, and we want to highlight that a bit, we were contacted by Samana Beersel with the proposal to sell plants at the Beersel annual market. Of course we can only encourage this because a few years ago that sale was stopped there. People from Beersel who cannot get to one of the sales points in Rode and Alsemberg can also buy an azalea there. A few dealers (Ypsi, Toys & Stories and Christophe Bikes) in Rode have also spontaneously offered their cooperation and have been selling plants in their shop since last year. We greatly appreciate this of course. “

They don’t think it’s completely different from roughly five years ago: “We do it for a good cause and that position has not changed at all with us. We started smaller, of course, but in the meantime we have built up a super team of volunteers. Who could have thought this in 2016? It doesn’t fit into people’s agendas every year, but we see them very often in the next edition. Corona didn’t get our team and the action small. We remain equally enthusiastic together with our super team. This year we hope to be able to sell about 1500 azaleas again, but we keep in mind that these are difficult times. The result will certainly be announced on our Facebook page. For the first time we will sell the plants for € 8, the past 6 years they have been € 7. So something has changed here and there.” This might be useful where and when azaleas can be bought: Friday September 16, 2022: from 1 pm to 5 pm LDC De Boomgaard Sint-Genesius-Rode, from 9 am to 7 pm Colruyt Alsemberg, from 9 am to 7 pm Delhaize Alsemberg and from 7 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm until 6 pm at Ypsi, toys & stories.
