It is Heerenveen’s third goalless game of the season in the Eredivisie. The team of trainer Kees van Wonderen is still unbeaten: nine points after five games. NEC has three points less.

The chances were scarce in the first half. Usually it was Heerenveen that came close to the Nijmegen goal. A shot from Amin Sarr was simply stopped by Jasper Cillessen, Sydney van Hooijdonk saw his effort go past NEC defender Iván Márquez. Thom Haye did score in the 33rd minute. But the man of the cross, Mats Köhlert, had been offside.

If NEC became dangerous, it was usually because of Tavsan. Goalkeeper Andries Noppert, with a provisional selection for the Orange squad, tapped a shot from the attacker from the intersection shortly after the break. Tavsan was the victim of a wild action by Halilovic after an hour. The Croat first got yellow, after intervention by the VAR that became red. Trainer Kees van Wonderen reacted and brought Van Hooijdonk to the side for midfielder Simon Olsson.

Heerenveen collapsed and it was NEC that had the best chance ten minutes before the end via Landry Dimata. The Belgian headed just wide.
