PSV failed the first serious test in the Eredivisie: FC Twente was 2-1 too strong in the Grolsch Veste. Especially in the first half it looked nothing like what the team of coach Ruud van Nistelrooij showed, with two goals Vaclav Cerny became the man of the evening.

After half an hour the chaos was almost complete for PSV in the Grolsch Veste: Joey Veerman furiously rammed a ball away, Armando Obispo gestured with his hands that he would like to be coached a bit more by his fellow players. It also looked nothing like what PSV showed in the first half against FC Twente, which was the first real test in the competition after four nothing.
Cody Gakpo was not pleased with PSV’s game against FC Twente. ,,This is not possible”, said the captain after the Zeperd in Enschede. Read more here!
And for that test, PSV finally dropped in the first 45 minutes: Van Nistelrooij’s team limited itself to playing the long ball, barely came from its own half and showed that the defense is vulnerable. We had to wait for the 1-0, which also fell after fifteen minutes from the foot of Vaclay Cerny, who took the ball badly, but was given plenty of time for a second chance.
Armando Obispo gave away too much space, like every game someone goes wrong: the last time PSV kept a clean sheet was already seventeen duels (!) ago. It raises the question once again whether investment in a defender should not have been made during the transfer summer. Now it is very vulnerable, it turned out against FC Twente. Because less than ten minutes after his first goal, Vaclav Cerny made the 2-0.
2-0, after 24 minutes. That caused frustration at PSV, which got no further than a counter chance for Cody Gakpo before half-time. In the second half, the Eindhoven team came out a bit better, although it was not over yet. PSV did get more grip on FC Twente after the break.
Debut El Ghazi
Guus Til, who also played a flat game, also brought PSV back into the game in the 55th minute. From a deflected shot by Xavi Simons, he caromed the ball through two Tukkers into the goal: 2-1. It was immediately his last action, because Van Nistelrooij intervened with a triple substitution: Anwar El Ghazi got more than half an hour during his debut for PSV.
But El Ghazi was also unable to make a fist on behalf of PSV, which did change the game in the second half, without really getting many opportunities. Although: in the final phase André Ramalho nodded the ball from a corner on the crossbar, but he also no longer scored. So it remained 2-1 and PSV suffered its first defeat in the Eredivisie after four victories. A defeat coming.
