Will Van Nistelrooij intervene and shake PSV awake?

Vaclav Cerny was responsible for both goals in a match in which Twente is the dominant team.

The resting signal sounds! Twente heads to the changing rooms with a 2-0 lead over PSV.

45+3′

Violation on Simons, and not the first of the evening.

45+1′

Makkelie whistles again, this time Teze is injured on the floor.

45+1′

Unnerstall comes out of his goal well, but the ball hangs.

45′

Three minutes of extra time are announced, while PSV may take a corner.

45′

The combination between Brenet and Cerny fails, possession again for PSV.

44′

Two more minutes until halftime, are we going to see another big chance?

43′

Meanwhile, the new PSV acquisition Anwar El-Ghazi is warming up.

41′

Zerrouki cleverly recaptures the ball.

40′

Can the people of Eindhoven do something in return for the break?

40′

They both seem to be able to continue and so the game continues. PSV builds up from the back.

38′

That was a big bang and both players get injured in the head. While they are being treated, the rest take their chance for a drinking break.

38′

An ugly clash now between Simons and Pröpper, who both suffer from this.

36′

Good tackle by Obispo on the ball, Twente seemed to become dangerous there.

36′

Zerrouki now with the cross, but Obispo works away. Throw-in FC Twente.

35′

The home crowd will therefore have a good evening, where Van Nistelrooij will be worried.

35′

The high pressure of Twente ensures that PSV does not really get rid of their own half.

33′

Throw-in now for FC Twente after Max loses the ball.

32′

It is mainly the defense of PSV that seem to have no grip on the flanks.

32′

Despite the 2-0 deficit, he is excellent in goalkeeping tonight.

32′

On the other hand, another great opportunity for Twente! A good move from Cerny gives Rock a shot, but Benitez can save again.

31′

The corner then yields nothing.

31′

Veerman was good at sending Simons away, who dropped the ball towards Gakpo. However, the left winger takes too long and Unnerstall can save.

30′

Now a good chance for PSV!

30′

In this way, the opportunities for Twente are piling up.

30′

A good shot from Smal towards the bottom corner, but Benitez makes a good save!

30′

Benitez puts down the wall.

29′

Zerrouki, Cerny and Smal are behind the ball.

29′

Foul now from Obispo on the emerging Brenet. This seems like a good position for a free kick.

29′

Their attackers are given a lot of space, that cannot continue to go well.

27′

There was little to argue with.

27′

Pröpper works Simons to the ground from a switchover moment of PSV. This time it does get him a card.

27′

The long ball towards Gakpo yields nothing, now attack from Twente via Smal.

26′

Twente is really dominant in this phase. Almost all duels seem to be won by Jans’ team.

26′

So PSV will have to look for a comeback, just like last year. Will van Nistelrooij intervene or will he retain his confidence?

25′

A free kick is placed well behind the line, after which Sangaré heads the ball away. However, the ball lands straight into Cerny’s feet, who shoots the ball hard into the roof of the goal.

25′

b89b067607.jpg One more time Cerny! Twente leads 2-0 against PSV.

22′

Vlap is already unavailable due to a concussion. Can Rots continue or should trainer Ron Jans start puzzling?

22′

Rots is now injured on the ground, that would be a big loss for Twente…

21′

Pröpper extends the corner and this creates a chance for Van Wolfswinkel, but the ball is cleared. Benitez is allowed to kick off.

20′

Cerny’s cross is removed, corner now for FC Twente.

18′

PSV will now have to come and try that immediately via Bakayoko over the left side.

18′

A good start for FC Twente!

18′

A good pass from Smal ends up with Cerny, who initially mishandles the ball, but still shoots it into the bottom right corner.

17′

1662227498_164_Live-FC-Twente-PSV-Septem 1-0 FC Twente! Cerny gives the team from Enschede the lead.

15′

So far the game has been very even. Twente is certainly not the underlying party and PSV is not used to that this season.

15′

Cerny’s shot goes wide.

14′

After a phase in which good positional play could be seen, the long ball is now more often sought after.

14′

Then immediately another long ball in the other direction, after which Van Wolfswinkel lies in the box, but there seems to be no question of a penalty.

14′

The long ball on Simons seems dangerous, but Unnerstall is well in between.

11′

Narrow tries in one go, but the ball ends up in the side net. Benitez can kick out.

11′

The free kick must therefore be taken again.

11′

A nice variant of Twente gives Cerny a great chance, but Makkelie hadn’t whistled yet.

10′

Violation now by Teze at 30 meters from the goal. The defender escapes a yellow card there, which is a nice position for FC Twente.

9′

Bakayoko seeks the combination with Simons, but it fails. Possession for Twente in their own half.

8′

Dangerous header from Rots, but it ends wide. PSV can kick off.

8′

Now a breakthrough on the left wing via Tzolis, forcing Benitez to a save. Corner Twente!

6′

That is therefore different from last season, in which the competition got off to a flying start.

6′

Not a very high tempo in the opening phase of the match, none of the teams dares to take a big risk for the time being.

6′

Veerman now loses the ball, Twente can try again.

5′

Nice combination now from Twente via the right flank, but in the end it yields nothing. The build-up starts again.

5′

Simons then asks for a card for Pröpper, but Makkelie does not agree.

4′

Foul by Pröpper now on Simons, who seemed to have room there in the switch.

4′

Possession of the ball is still a bit up and down. In any case, the match remained goalless for the first minutes, which is already special for this Eredivisie season.

2′

Throw-in now for FC Twente after Bakayoko lost the ball.

2′

The game started quietly, with both teams feeling their way.

1′

PSV is slowly building up via Benitez.

0′

74313e4e3b.jpg And referee Danny Makkelie has whistled, the ball is rolling in Enschede!

The players are now on the field, we are about to start!

Last season, this match ended in a 3-3 draw, after a great comeback by the Eindhoven team. Twente was already leading 3-0 after 25 minutes and will therefore hope for a similar start tonight!

The good start of the Eindhoven team and especially the high number of goals has so far been praised. Yet they have not had the hardest resistance so far and Twente is expected to become the toughest opponent to date. So it will be interesting to see if they can bring the same tonight.

PSV has had a busy end of the transfer summer, but in the end managed to keep both Gakpo and Sangaré. General director Marcel Brands and technical director John de Jong will undoubtedly be very satisfied with this.

A striking statistic: FC Twente has already lost sixteen matches against PSV. The last victory dates back to 2013, will we see that change today?

Only five minutes until kick-off…

At PSV, the starting position of Guus Til is particularly striking. He returns to the base with the Eindhoven players, so that talent Xavi Simons is expected to replace the injured Luuk de Jong in the striker.

Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij opts for the following line-up:

A few changes from last week’s 4-0 win over Excelsior. Robin Pröpper returns to the heart of the defense and Rots and Cerný also make their appearance.

The lineups are now known, here are the eleven names with which FC Twente will appear at kick-off:

Twente also had a good start to the competition. It occupies fourth place with 9 points from 4 matches and only wasted points in the away game against FC Volendam (1-0 loss).

PSV is currently still clear in the competition and managed to win all four matches in a convincing way. With a goal difference of 22:5 they were at the top of the Eredivisie until tonight. After Ajax’s 4-0 victory against Cambuur, they will want to regain the lead.

The numbers two and five of the competition will compete against each other in the Grolsch Veste today and will start the match at 18:45.
