The Tollensprijs is the oldest literary prize in the Netherlands and has been awarded since 1903. The prize is awarded once every five years. But due to the corona crisis, it has now been seven years since the award was awarded.

The prize is named after the poet Hendrik Tollens (1780-1856) who excelled in accessible poetry. He had a remarkably wide range with his work and in his work often gave his view on current events. The jury is looking for a winner who does the same in his or her work.

Previously, Paulien Cornelisse, Hans Dorrestijn, Jules Deelder and Drs. P already crowned.
