In Seoul, the American desire to give preference to electric vehicles made in North America is not at all well received.

Why is this important?

This is an issue that could clearly cloud relations between the United States and South Korea, a country Washington relies heavily on to counter China’s all-consuming influence in the region.

Last month, Joe Biden, by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a boost to the national EV sector. The law states that only purchases of electric vehicles manufactured in North America qualify for a tax credit of up to $7,500.
