Cost increases also affect Coca-Cola in Belgium: the soft drink producer is therefore going to raise prices in October. How much more expensive the drinks will be will depend on negotiations with the retailers.

“Not fully calculating”

Bottler Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Belgium is experiencing increases in costs for energy, transport, labor and packaging. Therefore, the company will implement a price increase in October. Coca-Cola cannot say how high that price increase will be: “That is part of the negotiations,” spokeswoman Maud Collée told the Belga news agency. It is the retailers who determine the selling prices.

The soft drink producer does say that it will not pass on the full cost increase to customers. “We understand the unprecedented and difficult period for our customers and consumers, which is why we will not pass on the full costs.”

However, more brand manufacturers are forced to raise prices to absorb sharply rising costs. This sometimes leads to conflicts with food retailers: for example, customers are currently unable to find products from danone in the shops of Delhaize and Lidlbecause the trading partners have not yet been able to reach an agreement on the tariffs.
