NAC was stuck at home against FC Eindhoven on a 1-1 draw. The team from Breda took the lead early, but that was not enough for the victory against Rob Penders’ team.

Last week NAC successfully passed the serious test against the hitherto clear Roda JC (1-3 win). That impressive performance had to form the basis at home for a new showdown against a team that was still without a point loss, namely the FC Eindhoven of old acquaintance Rob Penders. The team that surprised friend and foe last year and will continue to do so this season.

NAC had a lightning start Friday evening. The home side took the lead after five minutes. Who else but Ody Velanas, the most valuable player in the roster, made the difference. A free kick (from his foot) was reintroduced by Boyd Lucassen and NAC’s number ten was in the right place to pass Nigel Bertrams from close range: 1-0. His fourth goal of this young season.

Chance De Rooij

It was the prelude to a first half that dominated NAC. With great football. It could also have resulted in the 2-0 after fifteen minutes of play, were it not for the fact that Bertrams prevented a goal from Kaj de Rooij. There was actually no problem in the air, until FC Eindhoven reached 1-1 just before half-time. Charles-Andreas Brym overpowered Fabio Di Michele Sanchez and delivered a superb assist to Ozan Kökcü.

In the second half, NAC remained the dominant party, but there were actually no opportunities to note. Or we have to include Ezekiel Banzuzi’s shot from the second line (far over). In the final quarter Molenaar therefore brought in Thomas Marijnissen (together with Vet) to force a little more offensively.

The substitute was immediately threatening, but hesitated too long and then shot at the goalkeeper. With physical play (and many yellow cards), FC Eindhoven held up the game well, so that NAC did not come into real danger. At the end of the match, former NAC midfielder Yassine Azzagari came within the lines of the Eindhoven team to cross the line.

NAC setup: shortsmith; Lucassen, Mac Nulty, Velthuis, Di Michele Sanchez; Agougil, Plat, Banzuzi (75. Bold); De Rooij (86. Herrmann), Van der Sande, Velanas (75. Marijnissen).
