The United States announced a new military aid package worth 400 million dollars (more than 371 million euros) for Ukraine on Friday. International news agencies report this. According to a US government official, the package will mainly consist of artillery, ammunition for missile defense systems, anti-tank ammunition, armored vehicles and small arms.

The support package is part of a law passed in April that releases 95 billion dollars (more than 89 billion euros) for aid to Israel and Taiwan, among others. 60.8 billion of this (about 57 billion euros) is intended for Ukraine. Under that aid package, President Biden can spend up to $8 billion at his discretion on appropriate arms support for Ukraine without congressional approval. The new support package is part of this.

The additional arms support is desperately needed for Ukraine: earlier on Friday it was reported that the Russians had breached the Ukrainian defense line near Kharkiv. With an armored ground attack, the Russians opened a new front in northeastern Ukraine, after the war had been waged in the east and south for a long time.
