Premier League – matchday 30 – 31/03/24 – 5:30 PM

In the Premier League, Manchester City and Arsenal shared the points in the clash of title pretenders. The match ended as it began and Liverpool were crowned the winners of matchday 30.

Liverpool had won against Brighton earlier in the afternoon and so Arsenal had to do the same to maintain their lead in the Premier League. That was not an easy task when visiting Manchester City, where the Gunners had not won since 2015.

In a fairly balanced first half, it was City who, as usual, had most of the game, but the better opportunities were for the visitors from London. Ex-City striker Gabriel Jesus signed for 2 chances, but we didn’t see any real hot positions.

The second half seemed to provide more enthusiasm. Kovacic missed the goal by a hair with a long shot, while Jesus was centimeters short of sliding in a cross on the other side.

But the flare-up was short-lived. For both teams, the fear of conceding a goal seemed greater than the urge to score one. The fact that Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland did not play their best match did not help the home team either.

In the final fifteen minutes, Arsenal substitutes Trossard and Martinelli provided some welcome momentum. Trossard even flirted with the 0-1, but was unable to get the ball past City keeper Ortega from an acute angle.

And so Liverpool is ultimately the winner of the weekend. With 9 matchdays remaining, Jürgen Klopp’s team has 2 points more than Arsenal and 3 points more than City.
