Several cars collided with each other on the A4 near Nieuw-Vennep early this morning during a hailstorm. A total of sixteen cars were involved in the accident.
Things went wrong just before an exit. The motorists were surprised by the sudden slipperiness of the March shower.
Most of the occupants escaped unhurt or with minor injuries. Some had neck complaints and were checked by the ambulance on the spot. One person was rushed to hospital, according to a local photojournalist. It is not yet known what condition it is in.
Nine of the sixteen vehicles had to be towed away by recovery companies. Due to the recovery of the cars, only one lane was available on this route for a while, but all lanes have now reopened.
An accident also happened this morning on the provincial road N206 between Katwijk and Noordwijk. There a van left the road and crashed into the guardrail.
No one was injured, but the vehicle was a total loss. The road is closed due to the clean-up work. Bad weather may have been the cause here too.
