Luis Enrique has caused quite a surprise with his view of the near future. The coach of Paris Saint-Germain was asked after the league match against Strasbourg whether he is worried about the Champions League match against Real Sociedad and came up with a remarkable answer.
PSG will play Real Sociedad in the eighth final of the billion dollar ball on February 14 and made little impression in the run-up to the first match against the Basques. Last Sunday, Marco Bizot’s Stade Brest held the reigning French champions at 2-2 and on Friday the away match against Strasbourg produced a difficult victory thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Marco Asensio: 1-2.

The fact that PSG still had to go backwards after the break and had a difficult time with Strasbourg did not worry Luis Enrique. ‘If we analyze the match, it was a good performance against a strong opponent with good momentum, especially at home. Our mentality was good and we also knew how to defend. That is also our goal, that we control the game by defending well.’
When the Spaniard was asked whether he was worried about the Champions League, he replied: “We could be dead in twelve days,” was his unorthodox response. ‘Of course I hope not, but the Champions League doesn’t interest me. The upcoming match in Brest interests me, it is a cup match, a final. The future does not exist in football.’
Just as Luis Enrique only wants to draw conclusions about the level of his team when the season is over. The PSG coach did not want to comment on the progression promised in December. “It will be worse in March, better in April, less good in May and better again in June,” he laughed mysteriously. ‘The goal is to have won all the prizes by June 1. We are ambitious.’
