The Dutch hockey players resumed the Pro League on Saturday with a resounding victory over the United States. Partly thanks to four goals from Pien Dicke, the score was 7-0 in Bhubaneswar, India.

The Netherlands needed only thirteen minutes to break the spell in the eerily empty Kalinga Stadium. Luna Fokke deftly finished from the back line after a beautiful pass from Freek Moeke: 1-0. A minute later, Dicke doubled the score, giving the Dutch team a 2-0 lead.

A huge mistake in the United States’ defense allowed Dicke to easily make it 3-0 after the break. With two tip-ins she also made it 4-0 and 5-0. It didn’t stop there: Yibbi Jansen used two more penalty shots.

The convincing victory means that the Netherlands remains clear in the Pro League. The team of national coach Paul van Ass has fifteen points after five matches and has scored no fewer than 31 times. The Netherlands conceded only three goals.

The Dutch team will be back in action in the Pro League on Monday. Then the opponent is China of former Dutch national coach Alyson Annan. Later this month, the opponents will be Australia (February 9), the US again (February 12), India (February 14), China again (February 15) and Australia (February 18).

For the Netherlands, the matches in the Pro League are in preparation for the Olympic Games next summer in Paris. More than a week ago, national coach Van Ass took a drastic decision with the reigning Olympic champion. He passed star player Lidewij Welten for the Olympic selection.
