Eleven Antwerp restaurants and bars with a focus on wine are tipped by Star Wine List: Zilte and Ta-nnin score the highest (Antwerp)

The jury considered six categories, where one case each received the gold award, supplemented with a handful of silver awards for other cases. The highest award came in the series of small wine lists, with fewer than 200 wines, for Ta-nnin. That is a business in Antwerp South in the Volksstraat. According to the jury, a carefully selected range is served.

Tawat Hattatammanoon gained his first experience as a Thai sommelier at the former restaurant of Nathalie Meskens and Jeroen Van Dyck Yam Thai and later wine bar Avini. In 2020 he opened his own business. “For me, this recognition comes unexpectedly. There are so many beautiful things in Belgium! But I am very proud of it,” says manager and sommelier Tawat Hattatammanoon (43).

“How come we won? I am very curious about the most diverse grape varieties and new regions. I am convinced that you can find beautiful wines everywhere in the world. I want to know everything about it, even if that’s impossible. During my search I let my customers enjoy what I discover. I get a lot of pleasure from that.”

Zilte also won gold in the category ‘best wine list by the glass’, where it was appreciated that there was a good selection from every price category. The three-star restaurant at the MAS was even more praised. Head sommelier Aaron Moeraert also received a silver award in the categories ‘best sparkling offering’ and ‘large wine lists with more than 600 wines’.

Restaurant Marcel on Van Schoonbekeplein in Antwerp, owned by Serge Ver Boven, is also often praised for its large wine lists, Californian offering and choice by the glass.
