The young Gelderlander made his debut at the Grand Slam of Darts this year. Van Veen did not win any of the three matches, but has gained enormous experience.
GvV was defeated 5-1; the Welshman Price recorded an excellent average of 112. “There was really nothing you could do against this,” Van Veen laughed in front of the Viaplay camera. Van Veen was 100% on the doubles, as he finished 121 for the only leg that the Dutchman managed to win against Price’s violence. It was the third leg in which Van Veen threw 121 in 12 arrows, after which Price played 13, 12 and another 12 arrows to leave the Dutchman empty-handed. “I didn’t do much wrong, but there was no fighting it. I couldn’t do anything to stop him.” Van Veen also lost to mister 9-dart Ryan Searle (4-5) and 2-5 to Nathan Rafferty, meaning that the Grand Slam adventure is over for the debutant.
The 21-year-old from Poederoos will now prepare for the Players Championship Finals and the final of the World Youth Championship.
