The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) tech entrepreneurship summit opening ceremony was held on Tuesday in Taipei by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Economic Ministry. The AWE is an exchange program initiated by the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs that provides training opportunities for women interested in entrepreneurship, or who are opening or running start-ups.
AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk said in her speech that more than 75 female entrepreneurs from Indo-Pacific region countries including Brunei, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam were invited to participate in the event. Oudkirk added since Taiwan joined the program in 2021, a total of 205 women have successfully graduated, contributing to the reinforcement of shared values between Taiwan and the United States.
US State Department Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs’ Office Director Sara Mathews, commended Taiwan for hosting the summit and praised the program saying that she believes it will continue to expand and grow in the Indo-Pacific region, supporting female entrepreneurs for a better future.
