Evi Hanssen is a radio and television personality, columnist and writer, known in Belgium and the Netherlands. She is also Evi’tje, Arlette’s daughter. When Arlette hears in 2021 that her breast cancer has spread, she knows she will die from it. In the book Slow to Heaven they live together towards death. “Of course it is sad that my mother is no longer here. But she was there. She’s been here.”

Evi Hanssen is doing well. We spoke to her seven months after Arlette’s farewell, on the day the book hit the shelves. “I’m a little bit nervous. It is a closure and a new beginning at the same time. We really wrote this book together. It was nice to think this morning: ‘Aah… we did well, mother’.”
