Riemer hopes for Vertonghen: “The light is green, last test on Saturday”
Jan Vertonghen is training with Anderlecht again. “The medical staff has given the green light for Vertonghen,” said Brian Riemer at his press conference. “We now have to wait and see how his ankle reacts. Tomorrow will be the last test and we will decide whether he can play against AA Gent. That will largely depend on him, Jan is experienced enough and he has the best feel for his body. ”
There has also been contact between Anderlecht and the KBVB in recent days. Domenico Tedesco has included Vertonghen – subject to conditions – in his selection for the friendly match against Serbia and the last European Championship qualifying match against Azerbaijan. “I know that Jan prefers to play everything. Maybe we should look together at what is best for him. The good news is that Belgium is already certain of the European Championship even without Vertonghen,” said Riemer with a quip.
Anderlecht’s center back is thin, it is the only position that is not double occupied. “We knew that when we started the season. We looked at different profiles, but it would be difficult for that newcomer to compete against the Vertonghen-Debast duo. If we sign someone in the winter, it has to be a central defender who can eventually become a holder with us.”
Sardella, N’Diaye and even Delaney are possible alternatives in Riemer’s mind to compensate for Vertonghen’s possible absence against the Buffaloes. There was less good news for Francis Amuzu, he is sidelined for a while with pubalgia. “The good news is that we have been able to determine the core of the problem with Francis. We have now drawn up a rehabilitation plan for him and it is expected that he will be available again within three to four weeks. The match against RWDM after the international break will It’s still too early, but we hope to have him fully fit again from the beginning of December.”
The fully recovered Yari Verschaeren will make his return appearance for Anderlecht next Thursday in a practice match against Zulte Waregem. (KDZ)
