Racing Genk and Ferencvaros have drawn against each other for the second time in a row. Daniel Muñoz was able to erase a mistake by Genk goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt. Despite the second draw in a row, everything is still possible for Genk in the Conference League.
Ferencvaros-Genk in a nutshell
- Man of the match: Daniel Muñoz led the way again tonight. The Colombian rewarded his hard work and excellent match with the deserved equalizer.
- Key moment: Here too we refer to Munoz. The right back got away very well with only a yellow card after a serious foul on Samy Mmaee. Red would have been appropriate. A few minutes later it was, yes, Munoz who put the 1-1 on the scoreboard.
- Situation: After tonight’s victory, Fiorentina are in the lead, 2 points ahead of Ferencvaros and Genk. The Limburgers still have everything in their own hands.
No goals before half time
Genk knew exactly in advance what awaited them: a tough opponent who made playing football difficult by applying high pressure.
Ferencvaros kept this agreement.
Yet it was Joseph Paintsil who immediately provided the first chance. His shot exploded on the Hungarian goalkeeper’s fists.
One is not one, the visitors thought: Zeqiri made the mistake of the evening and forgot to push the ball in. A free-standing Paintsil also did his bit and used his shoulder instead of his head when finishing.
In the meantime, Genk had to say goodbye to unlucky Bryan Heynen. After a collision, the Genk captain stopped the fight with a head injury.
Time for Maarten Vandevoordt to stand up: the Genk goalkeeper made a great save after a ditto attack by the home team.
Intense match without a winner
The Genk goalkeeper would soon stop laughing after the break: Vandevoordt was unable to clamp a shot and pushed the ball into Hungarian feet. 1-0 after a blunder by the goalkeeper.
The Genk response was not long in coming. A well-followed Munoz pushed the ball past goalkeeper Dibusz in the restart and hung the signs evenly.
Lucky for Genk and Munoz. The Colombian could and perhaps even should have received a red card a few minutes earlier after a serious foul.
The final chord of this intense match belonged to Vandevoordt. The goalkeeper made up for his blunder by making an ultimate save in the final minutes.
This way, Genk’s goalkeeper can sleep a little better tonight.
Maarten Vandevoordt: “This is sour”
- Maarten Vandevoordt: “If we look at the entire match, it is a shame that we did not get 3 points. We fought hard again in this intense match. One moment of inattention could be fatal. That goal? It sucks… The ball bounced very badly, I still hit the ball with my chest but someone was ready to push in. That’s sad, I would have liked to keep a zero. We came to win but a point is still okay. In any case, we didn’t want to lose. We will fight for victory against Fiorentina and Cukaricki.”
- Wouter Vrancken: “We showed the will to win here. It was an intense match with a lot of struggle, in which we should have scored a goal in the first half. After the 1-1, the freshness was lacking to push through , but we did everything we could and I can’t blame the boys. It’s very close in our group, we have to believe in our chances. What Stankovic said? That this was a match at a higher level than the Conference League .”
- after, 8 p.m. 39. END: 1-1. There the final whistle sounds. After an attractive match for the neutral supporter, Ferencvaros and Genk keep each other in balance. .
